Neon Squid partners with Moon Lane for the 2022 Non-fiction Festival of Fun
For the autumn half-term, the award-winning independent bookshop chain Moon Lane held their annual non-fiction festival in partnership with Neon Squid. Across bookshops in London (Herne Hill and Catford) and Ramsgate, the festival saw super fun, crafty, and fact-filled workshops for young readers.
During the week, some sessions were led by amazing Neon Squid authors and illustrators – author of Animal Sidekicks Macken Murphy, illustrator of Aliens Amy Grimes, and illustrator of African Elephant Nic Jones – who were all a huge hit with the young kids!
The 2022 Non-fiction Festival of Fun was a huge success!
Rewilding is reviewed in the Extinct issue of CUBIC Magazine
CUBIC is THE magazine for curious kids. Aimed at 8 to 12 year-olds, each issue of CUBIC Magazine centres around a subject of interest for young readers. In their latest issue, Extinct, child reviewer Josephine (age 11) shares her thoughts on Rewilding. Written by conservation biologist and science communicator David A. Steen, this non-fiction book introduces children to the scientists determined to turn back the hands of time to create a greener future.
Josephine writes: “I thoroughly enjoyed both the stories and knowing how I can help… This book covers species from England to East Australia, half of which I did not know about.” Josephine explains that the book includes “gripping tales about how scientists saved / increased the numbers of endangered species from snot otters to carnivorous sundews… These rewilding scientists save not only the species, but also the environment they’re in.”

It’s official! Publishers Weekly broke the news today that Neon Squid is launching at Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group. Our first list publishes in January 2022. Visit the link below to learn more about the books, the authors, the editorial and design team, and the story behind that cute little squid.
Macmillan Children’s Book Group will dive into new waters next winter with the launch of London-based Neon Squid Books, an imprint dedicated to publishing gift nonfiction books that make complex topics—such as archeology and medicine—accessible and intriguing to young readers. Announced here for the first time, the imprint is named for an actual aquatic creature distinguished by its ability to glow in the dark and to propel itself out of the ocean and glide in the air. Heading up Neon Squid are co-publishers Joanne Clark, Fiona Macdonald, and Sam Priddy, who all joined MCPG in mid-2020 from DK Publishing.
